He said this while chairing a meeting with officials of the District Child Welfare and Protection Committee. The DC said there were 13 government and non-governmental childcare institutions in Shimla district, and 419 children were living there. He also took detailed information about the children from the in-charges of all such institutions in the district. The DC said efforts would be made to solve their problems on priority to ensure that the children living there did not face any inconvenience. “We all need to work in coordination so that better facilities can be provided to the children,” he added.

DC Kashyap said various competitions should be organised for the children living in such institutions. He said a calendar should be prepared in this regard and every month a competition should be organised to ensure the all-round development of the children.

He said under the Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana, eight children of Shishu Greh had been given admission in a convent school on the basis of the economically weaker section (EWS) quota.

He also directed officials of the Education Department to instruct all convent school management committees to give vacant seats of the EWS quota to children from Shishu Grehs before the next session so that they could be given better educational facilities.

The DC said 23 children had benefitted under the After Care Scheme in the district. Of these children, 16 were girls.
