Shimla DC flags off bike rally for road safety
Under the road safety month campaign, the district administration organised a symbolic bike rally at the MC parking, Tutikandi, on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap attended the programme as the chief guest, while SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi attended as the special guest.
The DC and the SP flagged off the rally. Addressing the programme, the Deputy Commissioner said thousands of road accidents occur every year across the state, in which the number of road accidents caused by human error was also quite high. “There are more than 11 lakh two-wheelers in the state. The risk to life is the highest on two-wheelers. Overtaking and overspeeding are open invitations to major accidents,” said the DC.
He said the youth of the state was becoming the victim of maximum accidents. Unpleasant incidents were occurring due flouting of traffic rules and drunk driving. An awareness campaign is going on in Shimla district under road safety month. A blood donation camp is also being organised on January 23. The closing ceremony of road safety month will be organised at Gaiety Theater on January 31.
