To dispel the fear among tourists and staff, the Oberoi group on Wednesday organised an awareness and training programme for Covid preparedness at hotels and restaurants in accordance with the guidelines and in association with the Tourism Industry Stakeholders Association (TISHA) and the Shimla hotel and restaurant association (SHRA).

The programme aimed to educate and build confidence among the hoteliers in the present situation.

Inaugurating the training session, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap said a balance between the economic activities and health risk had to be created for the revival of the economy.

The purpose of the programme was to help the hoteliers to learn the practices and strategies required for implementing safety measures in conformity with SOPs and instill confidence among the tourist said TISHA president MK Seth and SHRA president Sanjay Sood.

The tourism and allied industry in the state had suffered a loss of around Rs 5,000 crore due to the lockdown imposed to check the spread of the pandemic. Livelihood of over 50,000 people in the organised sector is not receptive to the concept of quarantine tourism, instead wants to promote wellness tourism in the state.

Hoteliers here are taking initiatives to revive the industry by providing training for risk-free stay and hospitality to guest.
