Shimla divided into sectors for security
The Shimla district administration has divided the town into five sectors to ensure law and order during the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly budget session. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anupam Kashyap announced this while chairing a meeting on security arrangements for the session, which will be held from March 10 to 28.
The designated sectors include the Vidhan Sabha complex to Vidhan Sabha Chowk, Cicel Hotel to Ambedkar Chowk in Chaura Maidan, Cart Road to Kennedy Chowk to Chaura Maidan, Cart Road and CTO. The administration and police will closely monitor these areas to ensure smooth proceedings without disruptions.
DC Kashyap emphasised the importance of coordination between the district administration and police sector officers. He directed all departmental officers to prepare detailed action plans and conduct rehearsals to anticipate and prevent disturbances.
Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said a comprehensive security plan has been implemented. Police officers have been briefed to maintain law and order, and security will be reinforced with drone cameras, CCTV surveillance, and coordination with the CID.
For better security management, the police have further divided the town into 10 sectors, covering internal and external areas of the Legislative Assembly complex. These include AG Chowk to the Assembly entrance gates, parking areas, the main reception, the newly built MLA residence to Bum Barrier, and surrounding areas such as Kennedy Chowk, the RMS office, and Band Box. Sector officers have been appointed to oversee security in each area.
