Shimla law varsity secures UGC financial aid eligibility
Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, has achieved a significant milestone by securing recognition under Section 12-B of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. This prestigious recognition enables the university to receive financial support from the UGC, joining a select group of institutions in Himachal Pradesh.
The UGC Act, 1956, is a key legislation governing higher education institutions in India, ensuring they maintain high academic and administrative standards. Section 12-B specifically allows eligible universities to apply for UGC grants to enhance their teaching, research and infrastructure. Institutions granted this status gain access to funding opportunities that support faculty development, research activities, and the overall academic environment.
With this achievement, HPNLU becomes one of the few National Law Universities (NLUs) to receive this prestigious status, marking a major step in its academic journey. Among the approximately 25 universities in Himachal Pradesh, the HPNLU is now one of only four institutions to receive this distinction, reinforcing its reputation as a premier legal education hub in the region.
Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Priti Saxena congratulated the university community, emphasising that this recognition is a testament to the dedication of faculty, staff and students. She highlighted that the HPNLU is now better positioned to expand collaborations with leading national and international institutions, strengthen faculty development initiatives and further its commitment to academic excellence.
This milestone not only secures funding for future development but also enhances HPNLU's credibility in the field of legal education. The university's commitment to innovation and excellence will further contribute to shaping the future of legal education in India.
