Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar reviewed the progress of the construction of a four-lane section of the highway between the Nauni Chowk and Namhol passing through Bilaspur district yesterday. This section of the Shimla-Mator four-lane highway would reduce distance between the two places by around 35 km. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways had in 2016 announced the construction of this highway at a cost of about Rs 5,000 crore along with additional expenditure on land acquisition.

The Deputy Commissioner visited the construction site near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Kothipura in the district. A large portion of the highway near the entrance of AIIMS had sunk and become dangerous for commuters and patients visiting the premier hospital.

Rahul Kumar instructed the road construction company to execute the work near the medical institution at the earliest to provide a safe passage to the patients visiting AIIMS. Gawar company is undertaking the construction of this section of the highway. It had constructed a 47-km section of the Kiratpur-Manali National Highway in Bilaspur district.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Om Kant Thakur, SDM Rajdeep Singh and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials were present on the occasion.
