The Shimla Municipal Corporation has decided to construct multiple playgrounds across the town to protect the youth from falling prey to drug abuse. The corporation is currently identifying suitable land in all wards for this purpose. Earlier, Mayor Surender Chauhan had directed councillors to locate potential sites in their respective wards.
Mayor Chauhan said a proposal was being prepared for playground construction under the corporation’s jurisdiction. “We are identifying spaces for small and large playgrounds, and construction will begin as soon as land is finalised,” he said.
Highlighting the severity of the drug menace, he emphasised the need for prompt action. He noted that youth are the most affected, making this issue a major concern. Efforts to combat drug abuse are being undertaken by the corporation, police and the state government. The decision to build more playgrounds is a part of this initiative.
“More playgrounds will not only keep youngsters away from drugs but also encourage them to engage in sports and fitness activities,” said Mayor Chauhan.
