As many as five families from Shimla’s Krishna Nagar locality have been shifted to safer places following the looming threat of landslides triggered by incessant rains.
A district administration team inspected the affected areas of Krishna Nagar and Ram Chandra Chowk on Thursday. The team comprised Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma, SDM (Urban) Oshin Sharma and Tehsildar Apoorv.
In Krishna Nagar, the families were relocated to a community hall as a precautionary measure. At Ram Chandra Chowk in Benmore ward, a massive landslide uprooted large trees that crashed onto the roof of a government building. Although no casualties were reported, nearby houses were put at risk and subsequently evacuated.
ADM Pankaj Sharma said hazardous trees in the area are being cut down and rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing. Tarpaulins will also be placed to prevent further soil erosion in the landslide-hit zone.
He added that the evacuated families have been provided accommodation and food at the local community hall.
