Shimla road blocked in Dharampur
Solan, August 14
The Parwanoo-Dharampur stretch of the national highway-5 was blocked near Sanwara in Dharampur following a landslide this evening.
The vehicular movement remained suspended. DSP Parwanoo, Yogesh Rolta, said the uphill traffic was diverted through the Bhojnagar road while the downhill traffic was being diverted towards the Jangeshu road.
A portion of the excavated hill caved in following heavy rains. As a sizeable portion of the hill has been excavated for four-laning the road, loose soil caved in and fell on the highway.
With apple transportation being in full swing, the diversion of traffic from the narrow roads added to the inconvenience of motorists.
Rolta said work to restore traffic was underway and machines have been deployed by the private company four-laning the highway to clear the debris. — TNS
