Shimla to host community run, environmental drives

Shimla district is gearing up for National Sports Day. Various sports activities will be organised in Shimla district to promote the spirit of sports, physical fitness and environmental awareness from August 27-29 to mark the day.
The District Sports Council and the Youth Services and Sports Department will host various sports competitions, community races and environmental campaigns, which will involve the participants of all ages. Youth Services and Sports Officer Rakesh Dhouta said the main event would include cleanliness and tree plantation drives at Nerwa in Chaopal, Rampur and Rohru on August 27 and 28.
Kabaddi, musical chairs and tug-of-war competitions will be organised at College Ground, Nerwa, on August 29 to encourage community participation and promote the spirit of teamwork. The main attraction will be an eight-km community run in Shimla city. This run will start from Ridge Maidan at 7 am on August 29 and end at Indira Gandhi State Sports Complex.
These programmes are part of the District Sports Council and the Department of Youth Services and Sports’ commitment to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, while also stressing the importance of environmental protection.
