Shimla, July 29

Shimla will receive regular water supply within two weeks. This was stated by officials of Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) during the monthly meeting of the Municipal Corporation that was held here today at Bachhat Bhawan.

At the meeting, councillors raised question why water was not being supplied to many areas of Shimla regularly despite the town receiving around 45 million litres per day (MLD) water supply since the onset of the monsoon.

To this, the Managing Director of the SJPNL said there was a chance of water supply getting disrupted due to silt, especially in the Giri scheme during the monsoon.

At present, water is being supplied to many areas on alternate days.

Councillors also requested the mayor not to hike the water supply charges by 10 per cent. Instead, it should be hiked by 4 to 5 per cent, they urged.

Municipal Commissioner Bhupinder Attri said streetlights would be installed in the town till September 15. He said around 38 streetlights had been installed in the town and poles were being installed across the town. Attri said the corporation had around 600 streetlights, while there were only 400 poles in the town.
