Shimla Zila Parishad meeting focuses on local development
The Shimla Zila Parishad held its quarterly general meeting under the chairpersonship of Chandra Prabha Negi, where 75 questions and 66 proposals were taken up for discussion. Departmental officials were directed to take necessary action on the issues raised, while several new projects and initiatives were approved to address pressing local needs.
Members stressed the importance of timely resolution of community grievances and swift execution of development works. A key focus of the deliberations was the demand for adequate financial provisions to strengthen disaster relief measures and to restore infrastructure damaged by recent natural calamities.
During the session, Zila Parishad member Subhash Kainthla proposed the establishment of a pollution testing centre at Narkanda or Kumarsain to address rising environmental concerns. Members also urged that the disaster which struck the state be declared a national disaster, to ensure greater financial and institutional support. Additionally, a proposal was made for creating a dedicated lounge for Parishad members at the Zila Parishad building to facilitate smoother functioning.
The meeting underscored the Parishad’s dual priorities — ensuring disaster preparedness and pushing forward with local development initiatives — while calling for stronger support from state and Central authorities.
