Shoolini fair begins at Solan

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu today inaugurated the three-day state-level historic Shoolini fair signifying faith and devotion in Goddess Shoolini. Exhibiting fervour, thousands of devotees joined the palanquin of Goddess Shoolini which moved in a procession through the main streets of the town.

The palanquin procession of the deity, a central highlight of the festivities, drew thousands of devotees who lined along the streets to seek blessings of the deity. The Chief Minister participated in the festivities by offering prayers for the peace and prosperity of the people. He shouldered the palanquin and joined the traditional Shobha Yatra. He also showered flowers on the palanquin as a gesture of reverence. He also released a souvenir brought out by the mela committee to mark the occasion.

Earlier, DC and chairperson of the mela committee, Manmohan Sharma welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister. People from far-flung areas thronged the town to seek the blessings of the deity. The fair, which started over 100 years ago, has become a popular event in the area. The temple is decorated for this eagerly awaited annual fair celebrated here in June.

The CM inaugurated a Model Career Centre at Jatoli, constructed at a cost of Rs 5.32 crore. The centre would equip the unemployed youth with information and guidance. The centre will also offer services such as career counselling, skill mapping, preparation for interviews and timely updates on employment openings in both the government and private sectors. The initiative is part of the state government’s vision to empower the youth by enhancing their employability and supporting them towards self-reliance.
