Solan, October 3

The Shoolini University’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has developed an oral formulation “made from bark of pine trees”, which it claims can help in treating post-menopausal osteoporosis in women.

A research team, headed by Dr Rohit Goyal and Dr Aditi Sharma, says it evaluated three Himalayan pine species for the treatment of osteoporosis under a project secured from the Department of Science and Technology.

“The team has been able to develop an oral formulation after studying the role of relevant proteins and this study was published in reputed journals,” said Dr Rohit Goyal.

He said, “The treatment for weak bones using pine bark is prevalent in certain areas of upper Shimla.” He said the team would conduct clinical trials with other institutions and hospitals. — TNS
