PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh today said that local people should not suffer damage while development works were executed. He visited Bhattakuffer where a building had collapsed yesterday.

The minister said that several shortcomings were noticed in the work on a four-lane road being carried out in the area. “There are complaints that the construction companies were going beyond the acquired width and dumping sites were being filled with three times more muck than permitted. Local people are suffering losses due to it,” he added.

He said vertical cutting needed to be reduced to at least 45 degrees to avoid such mishaps. He added that he would request the Chief Minister to form committees comprising experts from the Geological Department and IITs to conduct a social audit of all road widening works in the state.
