Nurpur, March 2

The RB Jankalyan Foundation, Nurpur, which started in April 2021 as ‘RB Covid Care Helpline’ by the family of late MLA Ranjit Bakshi, had donated PPE kits, N95 masks and other safety gears in five primary health centres for doctors and ASHA workers. After the pandemic, this foundation was involved in social welfare activities in the area and now it has become a ray of hope for the destitute and needy people who have been deprived of government succour.

Under the supervision of Bakshi’s son Akil Bakshi, who is also the foundation’s director, this NGO is currently working in the field of education, health and employment. It is providing financial help to the poor patients for medical treatment and roof to the destitute people in Nurpur Assembly constituency.

Akil Bakshi had cracked the UPSC examination (IAS) in 2012 and after serving as a Divisional Manager, Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), he is on a study leave for PhD since 2020. He said his mission was to continue the legacy of his father Ranjit Bakshi who had founded the Kshatriya Kalyan Sabha to extend help to senior citizens, widows and under-privileged families in the area.

“Social welfare service is my passion and apart from spending my father’s MLA family pension, I have roped in some donors for the welfare activities being run by the foundation,” he added.

The Foundation has so far constructed 19 single-room houses for the under-privileged families and provided financial aid to 33 destitute patients. Apart from this, the Foundation has built 16 toilets for under-privileged families in 15 gram panchayats. It has also donated a fully-equipped ambulance for the convenience of patients in the area.

A multi-specialty medical camp was also organised by the Foundation recently. In the education field, the Foundation has set up around 50 libraries in 50 gram panchayats of the Nurpur development block and were regularly being used by the students. Two computers were also donated to the government school at Baduhi for promoting computer education among the pupils.

The Foundation has installed 150 solar lights in 39 gram panchayats after frequent demands of the residents of these panchayats. It has distributed around 100 sports kits to youth clubs in 87 villages.

Volleyball and cricket tournaments were organised last year with an objective to channelizing the energy of youth and wean away them from drug addiction.
