Shimla, July 25
Himachali singer Vicky Chauhan and his family members were among 17 persons who suffered minor injuries as an apple-laden truck hit 25 to 30 vehicles parked on roadside at Bhattakufer in the suburbs of Shimla city this afternoon. Those injured in the incident were sitting in the vehicles and there was no death.
The truck coming from Dhalli reportedly went out of control on slope and hit vehicles parked along the road. As many 17 persons, including Vicky Chauhan, his family members and the truck driver, sitting in the vehicles were injured. They were taken to the IGMC Hospital, Shimla.
Meanwhile, panic gripped pedestrians and passersby, as the truck started hitting vehicles and later rammed into a wall near the Bhatakufar fruit mandi on the Dhalli-Malyana bypass. People walking on the road started running to safety but those sitting in the vehicles were caught unawares. It seems that the driver, while trying to stop the truck, could not control it, said an eyewitness.
Preliminary investigation revealed that brake failure may have led to the accident. SP, Shimla, Monika Bhutunguru said that about 25 to 30 vehicles were damaged and 17 persons sustained minor injuries. Nursing students and Nepalese labourers were among the injured.
