Singha protests LPG shortage in Theog
Shimla, June 9
Theog legislator Rakesh Singha along with CPM workers and residents of his constituency held a protest against the shortage of LPG in the area. He sat on dharna at the office of the District Food Controller for hours till gas cylinders were dispatched to Theog in the afternoon.
Singha shot off a letter to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, seeking his intervention in all such cases where “officers are denying supply of essential items to people for political reasons”. He said they held the protest because the officers concerned did not fulfil their duties. He said the elected representatives of Moghra, Kangal and Kotighat gram panchayats had complained to him that the residents did not get cylinders in May. “I apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the issue on May 30 and two days later, I told the DFSC, Shimla, about the LPG shortage”, he said.
The District Food Controller did not provide cylinders to the residents of Kotighat, a backward panchyat with 240 consumers and a few days ago, only 36 cylinders were supplied, he said.
The protesters called off the dharna only after LPG cylinders were dispatched to the panchayat. —TNS
