Sirmaur village notified as containment zone

Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner RK Pruthi has notified Dakra village under Burma Papri gram panchayat as a containment zone and Burma, Papri, Kandaiwala, Bazari, Lehi and Janglabhood villages under Burma Papri gram panchayat, Pallion and Bhogpur Simbalwara villages under Pallion gram panchayat and Kharkon village under Trilokpur gram panchayat as buffer zones after a woman from Dakra village tested Covid-19 positive on Thursday evening.

Pruthi said the notified area had been cordoned off to contain the spread of infection and there would be complete restrictions on the movement of vehicles and people residing in the area. Essential items will be supplied to the people on their doorstep. The area was sanitised on Friday. The health staff is undertaking contact mapping of the woman to prevent the spread of infection.

A 25-year-old woman from Dakra village was admitted to Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College on May 29. She delivered a baby and was later tested Covid-19 positive. She left for her mother’s house at Mahmoodpur village in Yamunanagar of Haryana after being discharged.

Sirmaur SP Ajay Krishan Sharma said contact tracing of the Covid-19 positive woman was continuing and 17 people of Dakra village had been identified as her primary contacts along with seven others comprising her relatives in Haryana. They will be quarantined and tested for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, seven Covid-19 positive cases had been detected in Sirmaur district on Thursday evening taking the tally of such cases to 11. The other six were already under institutional quarantine since their arrival on May 28. Two taxi drivers were traced as their primary contacts while another was yet to be traced.

This is the highest single-day surge of positive cases in Sirmaur where merely four cases had been detected earlier. Three of the four people had been cured while a seven-year old girl is the only active case here.
