Mandi, February 29

Restrictions imposed by the Sissu gram panchayat in Lahaul and Spiti district on tourists were lifted today to resume tourist activities at Sissu village. After the opening of Atal tunnel on the Manali-Leh highway, Sissu village has emerged as a popular tourist destination in the region.

Rajiv, pradhan of Sissu gram panchayat, said: “The restrictions have been lifted to resume tourist activities under the jurisdiction of the panchayat from today and we are ready to greet the tourists. Now, tourism stakeholders of Sissu will resume services.”

He said: “From January 15, the puja of deities started in each village of the panchayat. On January 21, the Halda festival began in the panchayat. To avoid noise pollution in the area and accomplish religious ceremony peacefully, we had decided to prohibit tourism-related activities in the panchayat area from January 15 to February 28.”

“During this period, the villagers did not install stalls near the Sissu lake to cater the tourists. No service, whether snow activity or any other, was provided to them. We had informed the Lahaul and Spiti administration in advance,” he added.
