The Sirmaur police today constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the Rs 1.69 crore embezzlement case registered against Satish Kumar, a former District Treasury Officer (DTO), Nahan. He is at present posted as Deputy Director, Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration (HIPA).

The SIT will be headed by the DSP (headquarters). Bank accounts in which the embezzled money was transferred have been frozen. The records pertaining to the case were being analysed and the modus operandi of the accused was being investigated, said Omapati Jamwal, SP, Sirmaur.

The money was transferred into five bank accounts of the SBI—one at Pachhad and four at Nahan. The accounts were opened in the names of Satish Kumar his family members Nisha Rana, Arnab and Supriya. The money was embezzled from December 2012 to December 2018 from the accounts of Pension Payment Orders. The government has suspended Satish.

It has learnt that his wife, who is an employee of the Education Department, had applied for voluntary retirement from service but the government refused permission.

The police are in the process of securing the relevant record from the banks and the office of the DTO to proceed further.
