The Kullu police arrested six migrants from Jammu and Kashmir for alleged cow slaughter and cruelty to animals at Mahun village in Garsa valley today.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Karthikeyan Gokulachandran said a person of Mahun village had registered a complaint, stating that Shakeel Ahmed, Khadan Hussain, Muhammad Aslam, Asif Hussain, Khadim Hussain and Arif Hussain were working as labourers and were living in his under-construction house.

The complainant said yesterday he heard noise of chopping from their room and found a piece of meat there today. The complaint added that a stray cow and its calf had been roaming the area around four days ago, but today only the cow could be seen and the calf was missing. The SP said the complainant suspected that the calf had been slaughtered by the labourers. Meanwhile, villagers gathered on the spot and the matter became tense as the accused were about to flee. The SP reached the spot and assured the residents action in the matter as per the law.
