Skill university proposed at Bhattiyat: Speaker
Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Tuesday said that a skill university is proposed to be established in the Bhattiyat Assembly constituency of Chamba district.
He also declared that a B.Sc (Computer Science) course would be introduced at Government Postgraduate College at Chowari from the next academic session. He was speaking at the annual prize distribution function at Government PG College as the chief guest. Before the event, he laid the foundation stone of a cultural stage and a botanical garden on the college campus to be built at a cost of Rs 27 lakh.
Pathania emphasised the importance of higher education along with employment opportunities. He said that a proposal for establishing a skill university at Bhattiyat had been prepared and its framework would be revealed soon. He expressed confidence that the university would bring positive changes in the region.
The Assembly Speaker said that drinking water supply schemes in Chowari and its adjoining areas were being upgraded to meet the needs of people for the next 25 years. He assured the gathering that the construction of a proposed multi-sports stadium at Chowari town would commence soon. He emphasised the government’s focus on roads, education, healthcare, electricity supply and social services in the constituency.
To the demands of the College Students’ Central Association (CSCA), Pathania announced Rs 7 lakh for furniture in the girls’ common room. He also directed officials of the Jal Shakti Department to connect the existing hand pump on the campus with an electric supply to ensure adequate water availability.
Meanwhile, the event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The college administration and local residents gave a warm welcome to the Assembly Speaker upon his arrival.
To promote cultural activities, Pathania announced Rs 31,000 in funding. He also felicitated meritorious students for their outstanding academic performances.
College principal PL Bhatia presented the annual report. Students entertained the audience with captivating cultural performances in Pahari, Hindi and Punjabi.
