Despite the freezing temperature in Lahaul-Spiti, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel have started snow-clearing operation for the traffic movement in the valley. Roads have been blocked since December 12 because of heavy snow in the region.
With the relentless efforts of the BRO today, Udaipur was connected with Keylong. The BRO also cleared the Manali-Leh road from Darcha to north portal of the Rohtang tunnel. It would help tribals to move in and out of the district in emergency cases.
The BRO also cleared the Solang-Manali road, which had been blocked since December 12. Now tourists can visit the valley.
Talking to The Tribune, BRO Commander Colonel Uma Shankar said despite tough geographical conditions, the BRO workforce was engaged in the snow-clearance operation in the sub-zero temperature.
He said with the relentless efforts of the BRO team, Udaipur had been connected with Keylong. He said the workforce was engaged in Lahaul to restore the main road links and widen the road.
Water has been frozen in pipes, which affected the supply in the district.
Villages in Lahaul such as Yoche, Darcha, Chhika, Rarik, Naingahar, Gvari, Koksar, Sissu, Gondhla and Mooling and villages in the Spiti valley like Kibbar, Kee, Langcha, Dankhar, Komic, Lipcha and Riba are facing acute shortage of water.
