Solan, January 8
Hill stations of Kasauli, Solan, Barog and Dagshai received the season’s first snowfall today, while Chail was wrapped in white blanket for the second time.
Snow brought cheer to local residents. Incessant rain lashed various parts of the district since last evening and normal life was thrown out of gear. Power supply hit a major snag owing to the inclement weather in Solan, Chail, Kasauli and Dagshai.
Several roads leading to Chail from Kufri, Junga and Sadhupul were blocked after heavy snow lashed these hills since morning. Tourists were seen making a beeline to the hills even as heavy snow at Barog led to closure of the road since afternoon. The vehicular traffic moved at a snail’s pace as presence of snow on roads led to vehicles skidding on roads. The police advised people not to venture ahead of Barog in view of the closure of the road in the afternoon.
Some vehicles were stuck at various places in Kasauli, Solan and Barog where motorists had a difficult time driving through the slippery road. SK Sen, Superintending Engineer, HP State Power Board Limited, said snow and incessant rain that lashed various parts of the district since morning led to major breakdown of the power infrastructure at various places, though work was underway to restore the power.
Welcoming snowfall, tourists in Kasauli also made snowmen and traders did brisk business. — TNS
