Solan: Kabaddi ex-captain Ajay Thakur seeks exemption

Tribune News Service

Solan, July 19

Padma Shri awardee and former captain of the national kabaddi team Ajay Thakur has sought exemption from the Pro-kabaddi Season-9.

In a letter written to Anupum Goswami, Commissioner, Pro-kabaddi League, yesterday, Thakur sought exemption only for this season without citing any reason.

Said to be at loggerheads with the state kabaddi association, he had resigned as captain of the state kabaddi team two days ago and requested not to include his name in the senior national team selected recently.

He has alleged that many talented youngsters had not been included in the team. While questioning the selection criteria, he had asked the association to resign and leave the sport to the sportsmen whom he claimed could handle the game better. The association, on the other hand, has demanded a public apology from him for levelling “baseless” allegations.
