Solan residents seek Kalka to Haridwar train
Solan, July 31
Local residents have demanded a direct train from Kalka to Haridwar as a large number of people visit the holy city in Uttarakhand for the cremation of their relatives throughout the year.
The local panchayats have taken up the issue with the railway authorities several times. Virender Kashyap, former Shimla MP, had raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and had also sent a resolution to the then Railway Minister in 2015.
Kamal Thakur, a local resident of Solan, has been consistently pursuing the issue with the railway authorities.
He says that the AGM, Northern Railways, had disposed of their request in February on the ground that a new train was not operationally feasible owing to the line capacity between Saharanpur and Haridwar. Also, new train services were disallowed, as per the guidelines of the Railway Board.
