A five-day online faculty development programme (e-FDP) titled ‘Next-Gen Civil Engineering: The Power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Geographic Information System (GIS)’, which was organised by Shoolini University, concluded today.

The programme aimed at exploring the transformative potential of AI and GIS in civil engineering and to equip faculty members with advanced knowledge and practical insights, enhancing their teaching and research capabilities. The initiative is expected to align the university’s curriculum with contemporary industry standards, ultimately benefiting students.

The programme was inaugurated by Virender Rihani, Dean of Engineering, who extended a warm welcome to all speakers and participants. The e-FDP featured distinguished speakers from prestigious institutions, including Mahesh Sharma, Himachal Pradesh University (Shimla); Akhilesh Nautiyal, NIT-Uttarakhand; Hitesh Upreti, Shiv Nadar University; Paratibha Aggarwal, NIT-Kurukshetra; Ritam Chakraborty, GIS analyst.

All the experts delivered insightful sessions on AI, machine learning tools in civil engineering, remote sensing techniques, innovations in transportation engineering and water resource engineering. Participants also engaged in hands-on demonstrations of GIS software in transportation engineering.

The event witnessed participation from 56 faculty members and research scholars representing several institutions, including Shoolini University, Government Hydro Engineering College (Bilaspur), NIT-Hamirpur, Chitkara University (Punjab), Gujarat Technological University, Manipal University (Rajasthan), Mahatma Gandhi Government Engineering College (Kotla), United College of Engineering and Research, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
