Solar light batteries, iron footbridge stolen
A spate of thefts in the Tissa region in Churah subdivision of Chamba district has left residents anxious and demanding swift action from the police. A gang of thieves has reportedly been active in the area, targeting solar batteries and even damaging infrastructure.
At least 10 solar batteries installed across three panchayats — Jhajjakothi, Thanei Kothi, and Kuther Budhaura — were stolen in past few days. Additionally, the poles used to mount these batteries were also damaged. Further, thieves dismantled parts of the iron bridge over the Shaneda stream in Thanei Kohi panchayat, making off with iron sheets, angles and other materials.
The bridge, built seven years ago, was crucial for locals, especially during the monsoon when crossing the stream became difficult. The theft has once again left residents struggling with accessibility issues. Panchayat representatives have lodged complaints with the police, urging immediate action.
The increasing frequency of thefts in Churah has left people on edge. Fearful of further crimes, locals are pressing for increased police patrolling and strict measures to apprehend the culprits. They believe that without decisive action, such criminal activities will continue unchecked.
“Thieves have stolen the solar light batteries installed for public convenience and have also damaged the poles. A police complaint has been filed, and we demand strict action against the culprits, Vipin Kumar, Pradhan of Jhajjakothi, said.
Kuldip, pradhan of Thanei Kothi Panchayat, said the thieves stole an iron bridge in his panchayats along with batteries of solar street lights. “We have reported the matter to the police and seek immediate intervention. With thefts becoming a growing concern, we hope that law enforcement will step up efforts to restore security and prevent further incidents,” he said.
