Soldier from Baghni village killed in line of duty in Arunachal Pradesh

A pall of gloom descended on residents of Baghni village near Dharamsala as the news of death of 29-year-old soldier Akshay Kumar reached his family.

Akshay Kumar died in line of duty in Arunachal Pradesh yesterday. He was posted in the 19 Dogra regiment. The Army broke the news of Akshay’s death to his family yesterday evening. As soon as the news of his death reached village, a wave of mourning spread across the area. Today, a large number of people and officials of the district administration met the aggrieved family. The mortal remains of Akshay would likely reach his village by tomorrow evening.

Akshay Kumar joined the Army in 2015 at the age of 20. His father Sansar Chand said since childhood, it was Akshay’s dream to serve the country by joining the Army. His dream was fulfilled, but this sacrifice was a big shock for the family and the village, he said.

Sansar Chand said Akshay got married just two months ago. He said with a heavy heart that who knew that after so much happiness, such a big sorrow awaited the family. After marriage, Akshay had prepared to start a new life with his wife, but fate had decided something else, he said.

Harsh Kumar, a resident of the village, said all were proud of Akshay Kumar for sacrificing his life in line of duty while serving the country. Besides, everyone’s eyes were moist after the news of his passing away reached the village. Villagers were preparing to give the last farewell to the martyr, he said. Akshay Kumar’s body would be brought to his native Bagni village on Sunday with full military honours, he said. Thousands of people would attend his funeral and bid a final farewell to their brave son, he said.
