Southwest monsoon advancing, Himachal to receive heavy rain

Himachal Pradesh is set to receive heavy rain in the coming days as southwest monsoon is very likely to advance over the parts of Himachal Pradesh during the next two to three days, resulting in a wet spell till June 25.

The state’s Meteorological Department has issued an orange weather warning for several districts of the state for June 22, 23 and 25, resulting in heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A yellow weather warning has also been issued for several districts of the state for June 21 and 24, resulting in heavy rainfall at isolated places.

The state is very likely to experience light to moderate rain at many places from June 20 to 25 with few spells of heavy rain at isolated places on June 21, 23 and 24 and one or two spells of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on June 22 and 25.

While there will be no large change in minimum temperatures till June 21, minimum temperatures will gradually fall by 2°C to 4°C over many parts of the state afterwards for the next subsequent three to four days. Additionally, maximum temperatures are very likely to rise by 2°C to 4°C during next 24 hours, after which maximum temperature will very likely fall by 3°C to 4°C during the next subsequent three to four days.

Light to moderate rains occurred at a few places in the state during the 24 hours since Wednesday evening. Sangrah was the wettest with 20 mm rains, followed by Pachhad 7.4 mm, Sundernagar 5.8 mm, Dharamsala 4 mm and Kasauli and Bajaura 3 mm each.

Shimla, the state’s capital, recorded 24°C maximum temperature while prominent tourist destinations Dharamsala, Manali, Dalhousie and Kasauli recorded 30°C, 28.6°C, 23.6°C and 25.1°C, respectively.

Maximum temperature in Solan was 30.6°C, Mandi 33.8°C, Kangra 34.8°C, Chamba 31.9 °C, Hamirpur 37.9°C, Bilaspur 34.9°C, Kalpa 25.7°C, Kufri 20.2°C, Nahan 30.3°C, Bhuntar 35°C, Sundernagar 33.9°C, Narkanda 21.8°C and Reckong Peo 30.5°C.

With 38.7°C maximum temperature, Una was the hottest place in the state while Keylong, headquarters of tribal district Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest as it recorded 9.8°C minimum temperature.
