Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Pathania today said all arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of the 13-day Budget session, commencing on February 14.

Addressing a press conference here today, Pathania said the session would commence with the address of Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. He said the Governor would list the achievements of the government in his address.

Sukhu to present Budget on Feb 17

  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who holds the finance portfolio, will present the Budget proposals for the financial year 2024-25 on February 17 and the House will debate on the proposals for four days
  • The 13-day Budget session, commencing on February 14, will have 13 sittings and the session will conclude on February 29. The govt has this time decided to hold the Budget session a little early in view of the LS elections

He said though on the day of the Governor address no other business was taken up, the issue of taking up obituaries on the same day would now be taken up at the all-party meeting to be held tomorrow. He said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who holds the finance portfolio, would present the budget proposals for the financial year 2024-25 on February 17. He said the House would debate on the budget proposals for four days.

He said a total of 793 questions had been filed by the legislators so far, out of which 582 were starred and 209 unstarred. Apart from this, eight notices had been received for discussion under Rule 130.

The questions filed by the MLAs mainly pertain to vacancies in health and educational institutions, condition of roads, drug menace, unemployment and power generation.

Pathania said he would seek the cooperation of all to ensure smooth conduct of the Assembly. “I am confident that the legislators will fruitfully utilise the session to raise public issues concerning their Assembly segments,” he said.

No live telecast

Responding to a query about live telecast of the session, Speaker Kuldeep Pathania said preliminary discussions had been held but owing to financial constraints, this would not be possible for the time being He, however, added that this could be done through a YouTube channel but a final decision was yet to be taken
