Tragedy struck Paonta Sahib on Saturday night when a speeding AUV mowed down a five-year-old boy in front of his father’s shop. The child, Divyanshu, died within minutes of the collision.
The police said the accident occurred around 8 pm near Bangran Chowk. Ramchandra, the victim’s father, who has been living in Paonta Sahib for over a decade, was standing outside his grocery. His daughter Sanjana and her friend had just crossed the road when Divyanshu attempted to follow them. In that very moment, a Bolero with Himachal registration, hurtled down the road from the Paonta Sahib side and struck the child.
The impact left Divyanshu bleeding profusely from head and facial injuries. Onlookers watched as the driver, identified as Praveen, stopped his vehicle and rushed the gravely injured child to the hospital. Despite being taken there without delay, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
