Mandi, December 23
The voters of Langcha panchayat in the Spiti valley are expected to exercise their right to franchise in the panchayati raj elections at Tashigang village, the world’s highest polling station situated at a height of 15,256 feet above sea level.
However, the final decision to set up a polling booth there will depend on weather conditions in the region because Tashigang village and its nearby places receive heavy snowfall during the winter.
According to Additional DC, Kaza, Gyan Sagar Negi, 364 voters of Langcha will cast their votes at the Tashigang booth for the elections scheduled for January 17.
He said that there are 13 panchayats in the Spiti valley where voting would be held on January 17 and 38 polling booths would be set up for the purpose. — TNS
