Sports vital to keep youth away from drug abuse: Minister

Education Minister Rohit Thakur inaugurated the Vikesh Panatu Memorial Volleyball competition in Jubbal subdivision of Shimla district today. He highlighted the significance of sporting events in keeping the youth away from substance abuse and other anti-social activities.

The minister said that sports played a vital role in the overall development of young people, strengthening their bodies and minds. He added that the government had established nine sports hostels in the state for the training of athletes in various disciplines.

He discussed development projects in the Shurachali region, including the construction of community buildings, health facilities and educational institutions. He said that the government was working to improve infrastructure, including roads, in the region. He announced a financial support of Rs 50,000 for the local youth club. He also announced financial aid for the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Lowerkoti.
