Students of St Thomas School, Shimla, presented colourful cultural performances on Annual Appreciation Day for Class IX to XII yesterday. Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest, school principal Vidhupriya Chakravarty and vice-principal Sharon Nanda. The principal extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, parents and dignitaries. She presented the annual report of the school for the academic session 2024–25, highlighting its achievements.
The cultural programme featured Pushpanjali, a captivating performance of Indian classical dance forms — Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Odissi — symbolising devotion and grace. This was followed by Bandish – Raag Malhar, a melodious presentation of Indian classical music that enthralled the audience.
The students then presented a series of creative performances, including a Hindi play titled “Throns”, a musical medley, and a radio play adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice” (Act I, Scene II). The cultural segment concluded on a vibrant note with a lively performance of traditional Himachali Nati, which filled the hall with colour and cheer.
A prize distribution ceremony for the academic session 2024-25 was also organised. Khushi Thakur was honoured with the “Student of the Year” award for her outstanding academic performance and all-round excellence. The students of Class VIII to XII were also felicitated for general proficiency, full attendance, and exemplary conduct.
Pankaj Sharma lauded the students’ performances and congratulated the school for nurturing both academic brilliance and cultural appreciation. He said, “Such programmes play a vital role in shaping students into confident, creative and compassionate individuals. St. Thomas’ School’s commitment to holistic education is truly commendable.”
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and a shared sense of pride as the school marked yet another milestone in its 101-year journey.
