Stagnant water in the drainage system near Badri Pur Chowk on the Dehradun-Paonta Sahib NH-07 has become a persistent problem, causing inconvenience to residents, shopkeepers and commuters. The accumulation of water has led to foul odour and poses a risk of water-borne diseases in the area.
Local residents have raised concerns about the poor condition of the drainage system. According to them, the drainage lines constructed by the Paonta Nagar Parishad years ago have not been maintained properly. In several places, the drains remain open, and the lack of regular cleaning has resulted in water stagnation and the accumulation of debris.
“The foul smell from the drains has made it difficult for us to live and work here,” said a local shopkeeper. “The situation worsens with time, and it’s becoming unbearable for residents and commuters alike. The drainage system needs immediate cleaning and repair to ensure the water flows freely and doesn’t stagnate.”
The open sections of the drains also pose safety risks, particularly for pedestrians and small vehicles passing through the area. Locals have urged the authorities to cover the open drains and ensure regular maintenance to avoid accidents and health hazards.
Responding to the complaints, Nirmal Kaur, chairperson of Paonta Sahib Nagar Parishad, assured that the issue would be addressed promptly. “We have been informed about the problem, and steps will be taken to clean the drains and ensure proper water flow. This will help alleviate the difficulties faced by the public,” she said.
