The state was adjudged the best in using digital health approaches for prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), at the fourth Digital Transformation Awards Summit today.

Himachal received the “Governance Now 4th Digital Transformation Award”, a government spokesperson said. The state had been appreciated at the national-level for leveraging digital approaches to prevent and control NCDs. After a successful pilot test, the digital approaches to check NCDs were rolled out in the entire state from April 1, 2019. “Till March 31 this year, more than 23 lakh persons (54 per cent of the entire 18-plus population) had been enrolled in the e-health card software,” the spokesperson said.

He further said out of the total enrolled population, about eight lakh people had been screened for diabetes, hypertension, oral cancers, breast cancers and obesity.

“Out of these eight lakh people, more than two lakh persons have been diagnosed by doctors and about 50,000 are on treatment and follow-up,” he stated.

The project had helped the department have state, district, block and village-wise risk assessment, disease burden readily available for suitable action and allocation of resources at all levels, the spokesperson added.
