State Food Commission holds workshop on health, nutrition

State Food Commission Chairman SP Katyal presided over a one-day workshop on Health and Nutrition here yesterday.

The workshop was designed to equip frontline workers with deeper insights into nutrition, improved health practices and the major initiatives being undertaken by the government in this sector.

Thirty-eight participants, including ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers and anganwari workers, attended the workshop. They were trained in identifying nutrition-related issues, maintaining field records and strengthening community outreach.

Katyal appreciated the sincere efforts of the frontline workers and urged them to apply the learning of the workshop in their day-to-day field activities to improve health indicators at the grassroots level.

State Food Commission Member Secretary Yogesh Chauhan emphasised the importance of effective inter-departmental coordination for improving nutritional outcomes in the state.

Representatives from the Women and Child Development Department, Health Department, PM Poshan and Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla shared key insights on balanced nutrition, maternal and child health, mid-day meal standards and community-level best practices.

Later, an interactive session with participants acknowledging the usefulness of the programme was held. The participants suggested that such training workshops should be held regularly for wider impact. Representatives from various department also participated in the workshop.
