The state unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has accused the state government of politicising educational institutions for its own gains.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, ABVP state office-bearer Nancy Attal said the government was reducing the jurisdiction of Sardar Patel University, Mandi, and was attempting to hand over university buildings to private colleges, undermining the public education system.
The government had not taken substantial steps to move forward with the establishment of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamsala, she added.
“No funds have been allocated for the construction of university buildings, causing considerable inconvenience to students,” she said. The ABVP had been demanding the state government to provide employment opportunities to the youth of the state, she added. She said the body had also called for the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP).
“ABVP has also been demanding the government to take appropriate action to curb the rising drug menace in the state. Students in various educational institutions across the state are falling prey to drug addiction due to which they are also engaging in petty crimes such as theft and violence. Not only this, many youngsters have lost their life to drug abuse. The state government needs to take immediate action to eradicate drug abuse,” she said.
The ABVP has demanded that the state government promptly address the issues highlighted by it, or else it will launch a mass movement against the state government in the near future.
