State Kayakalp Awards 2023-24: Sundernagar health facility bags top prize for 2nd year in row

The Civil Hospital, Sundarnagar, in Mandi district has been awarded the top honour by the State Kayakalp Award Committee for the second consecutive year. The hospital will receive a prize of Rs 25 lakh for securing the first position in Kayakalp, a government initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness, hygiene and basic infrastructure in hospitals across the state.
The hospital known for its excellent OPD services, fundamental infrastructure, cleanliness, biomedical waste management and other essential facilities has surpassed several regional hospitals to achieve this recognition.
Dr Chaman Singh Thakur, Senior Medical Officer at the hospital, said medical staff and personnel were upbeat on receiving the award.
He highlighted that the Civil Hospital handles a significantly high number of OPD cases compared to other regional hospitals of the state, thus positioning itself among health facilities in the top-tier in Himachal Pradesh.
Dr Thakur said the hospital’s secured third position in the Kayakalp award in 2019 that motivated them to strive for improvement. Their dedication and adherence to government policies, coupled with support from department officials, hospital management and staff have contributed significantly to this success, he added.
The hospital treats approximately three lakh patients annually, reflecting its pivotal role in healthcare delivery within the region.
