State-level Men’s Boxing Competition begins, 150 pugilists to take part

The  HP State Elite Men’s Boxing Championship-2025 started at Paras Public School, Bhawarna,  15 km from here today. Gopal Nag, Mayor of the Palampur Municipal Corporation, lit the ceremonial lamp before an idol of Goddess Saraswati to inaugurates the championship.

Around 150 players in the 20 to 40 years age group, including state and national-level players, would demonstrate their skills in the competition.

The Mayor congratulated Paras Public School for hosting the national-level event. He said that sports contributed to the overall development of a person. He assured the Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association that he would soon hold a meeting to discuss starting a boxing training facility in Palampur. He announced a contribution of Rs 11,000 for the successful organisation of the competition. Olympian Ashish Chaudhary, national-level star player Avinash Jamwal (silver medalist) along with many renowned boxers would enter the ring to make the matches exciting.

On the judges’ panel, SK Shandil, Secretary of the HP Boxing Association, who has earned recognition at the international level, is serving as an international judge. Paras Public School Director Mahesh Chandra Katoch, Principal Neelam Rana, District Boxing Association president Narendra Gaud, general secretary Kailash, senior vice-president Manu Sood, press secretary Ashok Rana, retired Principal Mahesh Nag, school staff, players and parents were present on the occasion.

In the competition, three-star national-level referees Kailash Sharma and Naveen Rana, along with 20 to 25 coaches, are providing their services. Ashok Rana said that Paras Public School Director Mahesh Chandra Katoch, who was committed to providing excellent platforms and facilities to players, was organising the event.
