State U-19 girls tournament kicks off in Una

The 66th School State Under-19 Girls Indoor Games Tournament began at the Government Senior Secondary School for Girls in Una city today. A total of 690 students from all over the state are participating in the three-day tournament where competitions will be held in badminton, boxing, table tennis, wrestling, taekwondo, karate, chess and judo.

Una Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal, who inaugurated the games, stressed on the need for sports for an overall balanced development of a child’s personality. He said sports instil a sense of discipline and team spirit. Addressing the participants, he said one should never be afraid of defeat or loss because this gives an opportunity to learn and do better in future.

Jatin Lal said the performance of Indian girls has been getting better at the National and International level during the last decade, adding that the Union and State governments have fixed a reservation quota for outstanding players in government jobs.

Earlier, Deputy Director of the District Education department Anil Kumar Takhi and school Principal Suresh Kumar Sharma also spoke.
