Stay away from drugs, police a ‘friend in need’, says DGP

Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari on Wednesday urged students and faculty of St Bede’s College to steer clear of drugs, stressing that police should be seen as trustworthy and approachable friends for guidance and support.

He was addressing a special drug awareness session hosted at the college, attended by DSP Geetanjali Thakur and LC Nikita. DGP Tewari spoke about the grave dangers of drug abuse, underscoring that it is not merely a personal habit but a serious threat to health, dreams, self-respect and family well-being.

DSP Thakur shared real-life stories to highlight how “every choice has a domino effect,” warning that one ‘yes’ to drugs can trigger a chain of consequences that may be impossible to reverse. She encouraged students to seek positive thrills and belonging through sports, arts, adventure, creative pursuits and volunteering.

LC Nikita spoke about the personal and societal costs of substance abuse, reinforcing the need for young people to say ‘no’ and protect their health, dignity and future.

The session concluded with a joint appeal for students to spread awareness among peers, families, and communities, and to make conscious choices that ensure a healthy, safe and positive future.
