The Kangra district administration has initiated comprehensive preparations for disaster management ahead of the upcoming winter snowfall and rainfall.

Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, while chairing a review meeting on disaster preparedness, directed all departments to stay on high alert and ensure seamless coordination during emergencies.

He stressed the importance of timely dissemination of weather forecasts to the public so that residents can take preventive measures in advance.

Bairwa announced that trekking activities will be restricted in areas prone to heavy snowfall, and instructed officials to prepare a list of roads and zones vulnerable to landslides to minimise potential damage.

The Public Works, IPH and Electricity Departments have been asked to keep JCB machines and essential equipment ready for immediate deployment. The Food and Civil Supplies Department has been directed to stock sufficient ration and medicines in remote and snowbound areas to prevent shortages.

Disaster management control rooms will be made operational at both district and sub-divisional levels to ensure quick response.

Each department will appoint a nodal officer for winter preparedness, while sub-divisional magistrates will hold coordination meetings with panchayat representatives and volunteers.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Rattan, ADM Shilpi Bekta and officials from various departments, including PWD, IPH, Forest, Electricity, Food Supply and Police, attended the meeting.
