A strong storm that struck Chamba district on Wednesday night caused a tree to uproot and fall on the roof of a house in Thulel panchayat, under Sihunta tehsil, damaging the structure significantly. The house belongs to Nirmala Devi, a widow.
The falling tree broke the roof’s slab and caused visible cracks in the walls. At the time of the incident, Nirmala Devi and her family were inside the house, however, no one was injured, but the house has become unsafe for living, adding to the family’s hardships. Nirmala Devi currently lives with her daughter Raksha Devi and her two granddaughters.
On Thursday morning, panchayat pradhan Kuldeep Kaushal, deputy pradhan Ranjit Singh, and ward panch Santosh Devi visited the site to assess the damage. The panchayat pradhan has also notified the local Tehsildar and Patwari about the incident.
Speaking to the media, Nirmala Devi appealed to the state government and district administration for urgent financial assistance. Pradhan Kuldeep Kaushal also urged the authorities to provide immediate relief.
