Streetlights on during daytime
The cash-strapped Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) is always struggling to pay the dues to the State Electricity Board for power supply but one can very often see streetlights switched on even during daytime. This results in wasteful expenditure. The MC staff, responsible for managing streetlights, must be more careful and not leave the streetlights on during the daytime. — Abhilasha Sharma, New Shimla
Garbage accumulates in Bindravan area
The Bindravan panchyat area, situated on the outskirts of Palampur, has turned into a garbage dump in the absence of any waste collection. Despite repeated requests of local residents, the panchayat has not taken any step to clean its area. Heaps of garbage can be seen in forests, roadsides and water bodies, due to which there is a looming threat of spread of epidemic. People’s health is at risk, especially those who are living in Differpatt, SSB Chowk, Khilroo and Bindravan. Besides, these heaps of garbage emanate a foul smell, making it difficult for people to pass by. The water channel passing through these areas has also become contaminated. Differepatt, situated on the boundary of the Aima panchyat, is the most affected. — Vijay Kumar Sharma, Bindravan
