Shimla, February 22

Student organisations in Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) remain divided over the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 . On one hand the Student Federation of India (SFI) demanded the university authorities to stop the implementation of the NEP, while on the other hand the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded the authorities to implement the same as soon as possible.

SFI, National Students Union of India (NSUI) and ABVP here today submitted memoranda to the university authorities regarding students’ demands.

The SFI claimed that the NEP should not be implemented in the university as it is just to promote communalisation, commercialisation and privatisation of education which needs to be stopped with immediate effect whereas ABVP said that the NEP is the first education policy which is based on Indian ideology instead of Colonia ideology. ABVP said the main objective behind the implementation of NEP is to make students aware about the importance of technology and creativity as well as the quality of education, therefore the policy should be implemented as soon as possible.

The SFI also demanded the university authorities to revoke the expulsion of the students besides restoration of Students Central Organisation (SCA) elections and provide hostel facilities to all the bonafide students, among other demands.
