Amritanshu Sharma, a student of Modern Public Senior Secondary School, Fagu, Shimla district, who stood third in the Class XII (Arts) examinations conducted by HP Board of School Education, presented a cheque for Rs 5,100 from her pocket money to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur as contribution towards the Chief Minister Relief Fund. Appreciating the gesture, the Chief Minister said such contributions from students go a long way in inspiring others to supplement the government efforts for the welfare of society. Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj was also present on the occasion.
Students watch solar eclipse
Eicher School, Parwanoo, organised a live viewing of the solar eclipse through its Facebook page for the students, who were extremely curious to watch this incredible event. They admired the changes that occurred in the sun throughout the duration of the eclipse. These exposures improve students’ observational skills, along with expression of their findings. Principal Deepak Singi lauded the endeavour of the teachers for this unique approach towards learning.
Yoga Day celebrated online
International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm by students of DAV Public School, Alampur. There was an overwhelming response from the students and the teachers for the online event. The school conducted regular yoga classes for students throughout the week. Children of all grades demonstrated various asanas, followed by Om chanting and posted their photographs in online group. Teachers sensitised students about the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga. Everyone took a pledge to imbibe the habit of practising yoga in their daily life. Principal Bikram Singh, addressing the students, said yoga and exercises keep us physically fit and give us mental peace.
Admission webinar by Jaypee varsity
Jaypee University of Information and Technology organised a series of admission webinars in which the V-C, registrar and all HoDs were the keynote speakers. The webinars aimed at counselling students and parents about the various branches of engineering and research facilities present in the university. On day 1, the webinar was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Vinod Kumar, who elaborated on various courses and facilities. The heads of various departments presented the highlights of the AICTE-based academic curriculum in their departments and also dwelt upon the status of the placements offered to the students. They also highlighted the alumni from their departments who have become IAS, IPS officers and were working in different MNCs and public sector companies.
Students perform yoga asanas
DAV Public School, Tiara, Kangra, celebrated International Yoga Day and conveyed the message of keeping our mind and body fit through yoga asanas. Students participated and made charts, wrote slogans and performed asanas, under the guidance of teachers. Even live performances were recorded through Zoom app. Comet Mensa Senior Secondary School, Dehri, Fatehpur tehsil, Kangra, also celebrated International Day and Father’s Day by organising online activities.
SFI, DYFI stage demonstration
The Students Federation of India (SFI) and the DYFI staged a demonstration at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, with the slogan “Take the knee” to protest against racial exploitation, discrimination and attacks in America. The SFI maintained that the protests, fueled by the death of George Floyd, is a new chain of racialism which dates back to American history when the slave trade was in vogue. The SFI and the DYFI called upon the youth to participate in such protests. Even in India, the labourers and the Dalits were being meted out inhuman treatment and discriminated against in the name of religion and caste.
