Shimla, October 6
Students desirous of pursuing postgraduate/professional courses outside Himachal have been left in the lurch as Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), which held examinations in a haste and ignored the stay granted by the High Court, has failed to declare results of undergraduate final semester results even after a month.
The examinations were held from August 17 to September 8 and in-house evaluation of answer sheets commenced 72 hours after the examinations.
Some students have applied for admission to Panjab University and the admissions would be done on the basis of merit of the undergraduate final semester result and the last date of admission is October 15. Moreover, students who appeared for entrances, too, have to produce their results for admissions.
“My daughter has applied for admission to the Master’s degree course in the Panjab University but the HPU has not declared the result of final semester. We are worried as the last date of admission is October 15,” said a parent on the condition of anonymity.
Parents said that even the results of honours courses, which have very limited number of students, have not been declared. The university should increase the staff in the examination wing and declare results as soon as possible, they said.
About 42,000 students had appeared in the examinations held at 153 centres and the evaluation of answer sheets is complete. While some colleges have sent the award to the university by hand or by post, others are in the process of doing so.
“The evaluation has been done and awards have been sent or are being sent manually or by post to the university,” confirmed R L Sharma, general secretary, Himachal Government College Teachers’ Association (HGCTA).
Moreover, there are lots of complaints regarding the online software Entrepreneur Resource Planning (ERP), which lacks specialisations and the awards have to be added manually, delaying the declaration of results.
However, HPU Vice Chancellor Prof Sikander Kumar said students who have applied for admissions outside the state could get a ‘confidential result’ by submitting an application to the controller of examination as the results are expected to be declared by October 15.
